February at Kim Gee Studio
I don't know why it's all lined up this way, but this February has become a BIG self-development month for me. I've signed up for 2 online courses that each run in February, I'm totally overhauling my morning routine (or lack thereof), and all I seem to want to do lately is move my body, whether that means taking 1 or 2 classes a day at my local yoga studio, or by having late night solo dance parties in my underwear in front of the mirror (highly recommended). It's all a work in progress, but I'm feeling pretty good about where I'm at and excited about what's to come.
So that's me, but what's been going on in the studio lately? The biggest news has been that the Keird Collective Pop-Up Shop is back for 3 weekends this Valentine's Day (Friday and Saturdays from 10-5pm). We all loooooved the Christmas shop in December, so it's been a real thrill to get back in there and redecorate the store with plenty of pink for February. Our landlord is giving us the boot this month (sob), so this will be our last pop-up shop in this location, but we're already brainstorming how our traveling band of creatives can pop up elsewhere over this next year. It was also great to have an excuse to make some Valentine's themed products, and my new Pugs & Kisses card is giving me LIFE.
The best part of our Valentine's shop is what we're calling Galentine's Weekend, which starts on Friday. Between the lot of us, we've come up with 3 different creative workshops to hold this weekend, and then asked a few local glamorous beauty providers to join us for an evening of express pampering. People are welcome to come on in and shop as usual, but they can also join me for a fashion illustration session on Friday night, take a crocheting workshop on Saturday morning, get a massage and their brows done on Saturday night, and then learn how to upcycle fabric on Sunday morning. Does it get much cooler than that??
And then, on top of the fashion illustration workshop, the Isle of Man Drawing Club is back again the next week for our February life drawing session! As usual, the 50 tickets for this event sold out super quickly, which never ceases to amaze me. I've been collecting a few recommendations of the club for some sneaky paperwork I'm doing (hopefully more to come on that soon!), and it felt incredible to get these testimonials back saying how much people love it. It is the most reassuring thing in the world to simply create something because you want it so badly, and to then see 50 people scrambling every month to get tickets to be a part of it too. My heart!!!
What else? Oh yes, the first day of February was #hourlycomicday on Instagram! I was so excited to contribute for the second year in a row, but it all actually ended up being a pretty tricky balancing act with the amount of work I had to get done that day. That being said, I already can't wait until 2019 to do it all again. Or maybe I'll just need to get my own prompt and finally become the auto-bio comics Instagram superstar I was always meant to be??
So that's February! Maybe by next month my online courses will have completely reformatted my brain and I'll be back with the secrets of how to be a perfect human, but only time will tell. In the meantime, I'll be over here drawing up a storm and dancing in my underwear. I wish the same for you too!
