I worked with Isle of Man author Jules Sum to illustrate her children’s book King Orry and the Itchy Pillow, which introduces the concept of allergies in a simple way for young people suffering with allergies. Jules is a local allergy awareness advocate and mum to a five year old who has multiple life-threatening food allergies, which were diagnosed shortly after birth, and wanted to create a story that could empower those like her daughter.
I designed and illustrated the book with simple digital watercolour illustrations, connecting the legend of the Manx King Orry with a gentle story showing children that even kings can deal with allergies and still manage to rule with a smile.
